Sri Krishna Panchakam [English Lyrics and Translation] by HH Vishvesha Thirtha Swami

 Hare Krishna,

All Glories To Sri Guru And Sri Gauranga!

I would like to dedicate my first post to His Holiness Vishveshva Thīrtha Swāmi, by translating his Sri Krishna Panchakam to english, which he composed during his 5th paryaya in the glory of Sri Krishna.

Sri Krishna Panchakam

durvāradevā rinikāyakālam
samsārasindhoraparam cha kūlam
krishnapradhattakshayasandhukūlam
bhavarnavasyotharanānukūlam

That lord, who is as ferocious as Yama to the congregation of vicious demons, he is the esplanade in this samsara, which is an ocean of miseries and sufferings. He also is the sailor, who takes us on a safe passage to reach him[himself being the shore or destination].He is the one who provides akshayambara to draupadi.

thāmāla nīlam dṛta hēma mālam

viṣvasya mūlam viviḍhorulīlam

bhaiṣmivilolam bhuvanaikapālam

bhaktālavālam pranamāmi bālam

Sri Krishna is as beautiful as the ṭamāla tree, he is dazzling with garlands of beautiful golden ornaments, he is the source of this entire world and he exhibits his opulent pastimes. He strolls with the daughter of bhēṣmaka, Rukmini, he is the only one responsible for the sustenance of this world. He nourishes his devotees just as a gardener cares for his saplings.

ulūkhalam dhāmavareṇa bhaḍvā karṣan

bhuvān bhūmiruhau nrpātayaḥ

nibhaḍya pāṣheća khalim khalam harē

vibhandya vidyādvayamaḍya saḍyaḥ

Oh Krishna, you uprooted two colossal trees, with a mortar on your back, the same way, please uproot my ignorance due to the influence of  the demon kali[kaliyuga] with the rope and please remove my illiteracy with regard to the relationship between the ātmā and paramātmā.

apārē kṣirōḍe pṛṭu maṭanaḥ samsāḍiṭa suḍām

hareir naivāgrṇāṭ surusumaṭīṭām kinṭu sugavām

payaḥ pāyam pāyam rućira navanīṭam samaḍan

prapedēnoṭrptim bhata bhagavataḥ paṣćyaṭa kripām.

During the Samudra Manthana or the churning of the ocean, when all the devatas relished the nectar amṛiṭa you being purnananda / nitya tripta, thus having no desire for anything, descended to Earth and have consumed again and again the milk produced by the cows, and have relished the butter. What is this, if not for your causeless mercy, the one who is fully satisfied and who is the fountainhead of pleasure?

namāmī kṛṣnam pravilupṭaṭriṣnam

smarāmi bālam manasā sadālam

bhajāmi dēvam ḍuritaoḍadāvam

ḍayābhirāmam dayiṭam nikāmam

I always remember my most beloved lord Sri Krishna, having him installed in my bosom, who claims me due his infinite mercy and who reduces to ashes all sins just as blazing fire consumes a forest.

panćamē sveeyaparyāya kṛṣnasevā mahoṭsavē

viṣveṣa ṭīrṭa yaṭinā raćiṭam paḍya panćakam

This hymn was composed by HH Vishvesha Thirtha Swami as an offering during his fifth paryaya,
